What Does a Good-Value Bag of Pick ’n’ Mix Look Like?

Everyone has their own way of choosing Pick ’n’ Mix. Some go straight for the fizzy sweets. Some want soft, fruity jellies. Others would happily fill the whole bag with one favourite and see absolutely no problem with that.

But whatever goes into your bag, you want to feel you’ve got your money’s worth.

A useful place to start is the weight, the price and how much choice you get. Can you choose every sweet? Are your favourites included in the advertised price? And what will the order cost once delivery is added?

At Mayflower Munchies, we’re a family-run Plymouth business operating since 2013. Here’s our guide to choosing a bag that suits your taste and your budget.

Start with the weight

Pictures can make bags of sweets difficult to compare. A tall pouch, a wide box and a jar might look very different while holding the same weight.

Check the grams first.

A 500g bag contains half a kilogram of sweets. A 1kg bag contains twice that amount. Comparing the price for the same weight gives you a clearer starting point than packaging alone.

Our Create Your Own bags start at:

  • 500g — £6.49 base: 10 × 50g picks.
  • 1kg — £9.99 base: 20 × 50g picks.

Before premium extras and delivery, the 1kg option costs £3.50 more than the 500g bag and gives you twice the sweets.

That makes it the better value per gram of these two sizes. The 500g option still makes sense when you want a smaller order or you’re trying us for the first time.

Choose the way you like to shop

There’s more than one way to put together a good Pick ’n’ Mix order.

Ready-made mixes suit people who enjoy a particular style of sweets and are happy for the selection to be chosen for them. A fizzy mix or a jelly mix can make the decision quick. Check the shop for current availability.

Create Your Own suits people who want to choose what goes into their bag. You can mix different flavours and textures, leave out sweets you don’t fancy and make room for the ones you really enjoy.

Individual sweets are useful when you already know exactly what you want. At Mayflower Munchies, loose individual Pick ’n’ Mix is sold in 100g units. Each product shows its own price, and a quantity of three means 300g of that sweet.

The right option depends on how you like to choose. There’s no need to build a complicated mix if one favourite is what you came for.

What do twenty 50g picks actually mean?

Our website’s 1kg Create Your Own bag has twenty picks, with each pick adding 50g of sweets. The 500g bag works the same way, with ten picks.

You don’t have to choose twenty different sweets.

Repeats are welcome, so you could choose ten favourites twice each for your 1kg bag. That would give you 100g of each one. Or you could give more space to a few favourites and use the remaining picks to try something different.

Think of each pick as another 50g to spend on whatever catches your eye.

If you’re sharing, you can divide the choices between you. If everyone agrees on one sweet, repeat it. If nobody agrees, there’s room for variety.

Build a mix you’ll enjoy from beginning to end

It’s easy to get carried away choosing something from every category. A little thought about what you actually enjoy can make the finished bag more satisfying.

For the fizzy fan

Start with your favourite fizzy sweets, then decide how much variety you want in the flavours. You might enjoy a mix of fruity and cola flavours, or prefer to keep most of your picks for one familiar favourite.

If you like a break between tangy mouthfuls, leave a few picks for softer, non-fizzy sweets.

For the jelly lover

Build around the textures you enjoy. Some people prefer a firmer chew; others like softer sweets or a mixture of shapes and flavours.

Choose a few familiar favourites first, then use any remaining picks for something you’ve been meaning to try.

For a shared bag

Give each person some choices before filling the rest together. It’s a simple way to avoid one person doing all the picking and someone else discovering there’s nothing they wanted.

These are starting points, not rules. Browse the available selection and make the bag your own.

Understand premium extras before you choose

Good value should be easy to follow.

Most sweets are included in our Create Your Own base price. Selected premium sweets add a small extra charge per 50g pick, clearly shown before you choose them.

Those extras vary by sweet. A pick might be included, add 20p or add 30p. The final bag price is the base price plus the extras attached to your selections.

For example, a 500g bag containing:

  • Seven included picks
  • Two picks with a 20p extra each
  • One pick with a 30p extra

would cost £7.19 before delivery: £6.49 for the bag, plus 40p and 30p in extras.

Repeat a premium sweet and its extra charge applies to each pick. Choose only included sweets and the bag stays at its base price.

That gives you control over both your mix and your budget.

Remember delivery when comparing prices

The advertised bag price is one part of an online order. Delivery matters too, especially when buying a single bag.

Mayflower Munchies Standard UK delivery is £3.99, with free Standard delivery from £30.

That means one 1kg Create Your Own bag at the £9.99 base price comes to £13.98 with Standard delivery, before any premium extras.

When comparing shops, look at the total for the order you actually want. Check the bag weight, selection options, extras and delivery together. A headline price alone won’t tell you the full story.

And don’t feel you have to add more sweets just to reach a free-delivery threshold. Compare the extra spend with the postage you’d save.

We’re based in Plymouth and offer UK postal delivery. Plymouth local delivery is temporarily paused.

A few quick questions

Can I repeat the same sweet?

Yes. Our website Create Your Own bags allow repeated 50g picks, subject to availability. You don’t need a different sweet for every choice.

Does every sweet cost extra?

No. Most sweets are included in the base price. Any premium extra is shown before you choose that sweet.

Can I order individual favourites instead?

Yes. Shop individual loose sweets in 100g units, with the exact price shown for each product.

Where can I find food information?

Look at the individual sweet’s product details for ingredients and allergen information. If you have a question about a particular sweet or dietary requirement, contact us so we can help with the information you need.
